Whitefield, Bangalore

Whitefield is one of the important regions of Bangalore city. Till 1990s this part of the city was not famous and important but with the IT boom Bangalore, Whitefield was reshaped into a major suburb and now it is a part of Greater Bangalore. This area of Bangalore is known for Satya Sai Baba’s Ashram called as Brindavan and popular for number of multinational companies located here.

In 1882, Charmaraja Wodeyar, the Maharaja of Mysore city permitted 3900 acres of land for the establishment of agricultural settlement at this field to Eurasian Association. This part of the city was a small village but after the revolution of IT in India, Whitefield is the region started representing Bangalore’s IT hub and now it has become a major hub for Indian Technology Industry and also officially Part of Bangalore city part of BBMP(Bruhat Banguluru Mahangara Palike).

Whitefield region of Bangalore is now known with the name as Whitefield International Technology Park in the north east of the city. It houses many IT and ITES companies and one of the oldest establishment of Tata Elxsi is here in Whitefield. There are number of IT giants are located here such as, TCS, Accenture, UTS, iGate Global Solutions, Wipro, Dell, IBM, Intel, Mindtree, Capegemini, FIS, Oracle, General Electric, SAP Labs and many more.

With the development of IT hub, Whitefield also started a boom in residential construction. This area is one of the expensive areas of the city and affluent area also as there are posh buildings and bungalows and number of malls, brand shops located here. The region is developing commercial area of Bangalore city and as there is number of businessmen investing in this area.

Satya Sai Baba’s Ashram at Whitefield which is known as Brindavan is very popular landmark of this city. Whitefield is renowned for this Ashram which his situated at adjacent to Whitefield Railway Station on the outskirts of Bangalore. Shri Satya Sai baba was s great spiritual teacher for all mankind. Many people believe his thoughts and follow them. Number of his followers visit this Ashram everyday and follow his teaching.  

Transportation facility in Whitefield

Whitefield is a popular and major suburb of Bangalore city and therefore this area is now well connected by all transportation mediums. Buses runs by Karnataka Public Transportation Corporation are connected to this area with all parts of the city. Taxis and auto rikshaws are also available for transportation within the city. Whitefield Railway Station is about 3 Km away north of Whitefield Bus stop. The Namma Metro project is under construction that is expected to cater Whitefield under phase 2 and this region also has extensive city bus connectivity with a wide range of connectivity to this region with major number of areas of Bangalore.
