Mahabaleshwar, Green Grand Canyon of India



Mahabaleshwar, the queen of hill stations is the destination one can never miss while visiting Maharashtra. Mahabaleshwar is a city in Satara district of Maharashtra, a hill station located in Western Ghats in the Sahyadri range. It is the largest hill station in Maharashtra state of India.
This city is situated at an altitude 1372 m above the sea level and due to its high altitude the town has cool climate and having many pleasant walks. Breathtaking valleys, lush green flora, cool, crisp mountain air and soaring peaks, this is all in Mahabaleshwar which is the summer capital of Bombay Presidency during the British Raj. This popular hill station is visited by thousands of tourists in every month as this hill station is having number of popular points which gives you mesmerizing sightseeing experiences. Mahabaleshwar offers spectacular views of the surroundings hills and valleys. This place is very good to visit and one of the favorite holiday destination.

Tourist’s attractions in Mahabaleshwar

·         Arthur’s Seat – This point is the queen of all points here. This point is named after Sir Arthur Mallet who was the first person came here and it is said that he lost his wife and daughter at this point in an accident. This point is at an elevation of 1340 meter. From this point the view of the nature is very spectacular and very scenic.
·        Kate’s Point – This point is famous for the view of two reservoirs of Balakwadi and Dhom and it is named after Sir James Malcom’s daughter Kate. This place is at an elevation of 1280 meters. Kate’s point is very beautiful and this is one of the most famous places in Mahabaleshwar. You can enjoy the beautiful nature from this point.
·         Bombay Point – Bombay point is also called as the Sunset point because most of the people come to this place to see the colorful sunset. This place is the most visited place here and most crowded also during evening. This point is called as Bombay point because it is on the old way of Bombay to Pune.
·         Elephant’s Head Point – This point is also one of the most visited and famous in Mahabaleshwar. The cliff on this point looks like the head of elephant and trunk. This place is very tranquil and beautiful. It is another observation point to deep valleys.

·         Wilson Point – This point is the highest point in Mahabaleshwar which his 1439 meters above the sea level. This place is the only point from where you can see both sunrise and sunset and offers spectacular views of Mahabaleshwar in all directions.

How to Reach?

Mahabaleshwar is the city in Satara district of Maharashtra state.  You can take buses from Mumbai as well as nearby cities to reach here. Private buses are also available from all the cities. If you are coming by Mumbai route then buses depart from Dadar and charge 500 INR which will take around 6 hours to reach here. Nearest railway station is Satara which his 58 kilometers from Mahabaleshwar and many trains are available to reach here. Taxis and auto rikshaws are also available for transport within the city you can also hire private cars and jeeps. Pune International Airport is the nearest airport to this hill station. People also come by their private vehicles.

Mahabaleshwar is the popular hill station in India and a tour to Mahabaleshwar and its surrounding would take at least a couple of days as there is much more to see and experience. In Mahabaleshwar there are number of hotels available from budget to star and hotels near bus stand are very much in demand. It is always advisable to book hotels in advance because number of tourists visits this place every month and usually rooms are already booked, therefore you have to wait till other rooms are available.
