Paharganj means hilly neighborhood, is an area in New Delhi which is the neighborhood of Central Delhi and this region is one of the three administrative subdivisions of Central Delhi with other two as Karol Bagh and Darya Ganj.
This region is popularly known in Delhi for affordable hotels, lodges, restaurants and variety of shops that caters to both domestic travelers as well as to foreign travelers. Paharganj is one of the main haunt for foreign cuisines and the market area of this place is very popular in the whole Delhi city.
Paharganj is the old region of New Delhi which played the important role in the history of India and the markets based here are very old markets that belong to the Mughals era. Over the years, Pahargank has become the hub for number of hotels located here. The tourists culture in Paharganj is very famous and has been location for number of films such as Kate Winslet starred Holy Smoke, some scenes of this movie were shot in Paharganj and also in 2008 Dev D was shot in this area of Delhi.
Recently, in 2010, because of Commonwealth Games, in this region a huge program was implemented by Municipal Corporation of Delhi that included 56 roads of Paharganj and over 500 hotels which are mainly low budget hotels. Paharganj is also popular region for crimes and illegal activities. Some of the hotels in this region are advised to avoid and some region of Paharganj is considered as red alert area.
Tourist’s visiting Delhi with low budget prefer hotels in Paharganj because of the cost and this region is near to Railway station of New Delhi. There are number of good hotels also available that provides various facilities to their guests. Luxury hotels are also available in this region.
