Churchgate, Mumbai



Churchgate is a popular area in downtown South Mumbai which is popularly known as Veer Nariman Street. Chruchgate is also a major railway terminus on the Western line of Bombay Suburban Railway. The Church gate railway station got its name from the street which is one the immediate south of the station.
From 18th and up to the mid of 19thcentury, Bombay was popular as Walled City which has three gates which was situated near the present location of Flora Fountain and Churchgate was one of them that is named after St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai.  Church gate railway station was the first station of the Western Railway suburban network of Mumbai. In Mumbai, local trains are very important as these trains keep the city running and without local trains travelling in Mumbai is very difficult. This station is a major terminus for local trains which accommodated about 15 coach trains.

Buses run by MSRTC connect each and every part of the city with each other and buses for long distances are available. For transportation within the city, public buses are mostly used by the locals.
