Pune, Oxford of the East



Pune, the cultural capital of Indian state of Maharashtra is known for its high educational facilities and relative prosperity. Pune is the second largest city in the state and contains the headquarters of an administrative division officially known as Pune division.
The city is having glorious history of nearly1600 years and once it was the centre of power of Maratha Empire. The name Pune is derived from Punyanagari which means City of Virtue. The large population of students in the city makes the lively nightlife and vibrant atmosphere. The city is one of the tourists favorite destination as having number of tourists places such as Pataleshwar Caves, Punyeshwar temple, Sinhagad, Parvati temple and many more because of which number of tourists visit this place.

Tourist’s favorite destinations in Pune

·        Parvati Hill Temple – Standing atop this hillock you can get a vertical view of the Pune city and a steep flight of 108 steps leads to the hill top temple built by Balaji Baji Rao. From this temple you can see the whole Pune city.
·         Sinhagad – This is a fort nearby Pune city which is a beautiful place to see and this is also a historic place in King Shivaji era. This fort is very famous in Pune city and number of tourists visits this place every year.

·         Pataleshwar Caves – This rock cut temple is located in the heart of Pune city at Shivaji Nagar. These caves are of eighth century and today also many people visit this caves as this is the only place in the city where the environment is tranquil.
·        Shaniwar Wada – The palace was built by Peshwas in 1736 situated in the heart of the city next to Deccan Gymkhana. This palace has become the symbol of Pune culture. This palace is very famous in the city as it is also known as one of the haunted place in India.
·         Aga Khan Palace – This place is a historical landmark with a gracious building having Italian arches, salons, suites and spacious lawns. This palace is belonging to Aga Khan, prince of Khoja sector. The palace is very beautiful and full of tranquility.

Transportation Facility

In Pune both public and private transport is popular. Public buses are very famous within the suburbs which are operated by PMPML. Public buses connects Pune city with the rest parts of the state and some of the major cities of India also. Local trains connect Pune to the Industrial town of Pimpri Chinchwad and hill station Lonawala. Pune railway station is well connected by number of trains with all the major cities in India and number of trains available that connects Pune city with various parts of the city.

Pune is a popular city and there are number of tourist’s spots because of which the city is visited by number of tourists. For accommodation in Pune number of hotels and lodges are available and some of them provide world class facility. Most of the tourists prefer hotels near Pune railway station because it becomes convenient for them to catch trains and hotels near tourist’s destinations are also popular. There are number of hotels available ranges from budget to five star and provide excellent facility.

Pune, the Oxford of the east because the city is known for colleges and the university because of which you will see a massive crowd of students near hot spots and restaurants. The city is important in the state of Maharashtra.
